We have been staying at Vegueta, Las Palmas, Gran Canaria for the last 3 days. The temperatures are wonderful - mid 20s, and the trails I've ventured onto are so reminiscent of all the videos I've watched of Transvulcania. Beautiful, smooth singletrack, merging into rocky volcanic, technical drops. The TransGranCanaria ultra must have been unbelievable.
So far, the calves have felt tight, especially given the long flight here and the unrelenting steepness of the trails I've been on, but it sure is nice to run at sea level, living where I do in Canmore at 1200m.
And the island is incredible for scenery. Just check out the view below! This peak was in the Tamadaba recreational area, where we sampled some Canaries sport climbing for a few hours, followed by a 90 minute low intensity leg stretcher.
Tomorrow, we'll head further south on the island and no doubt take in some more breathtaking scenery.
